The enhancement detail.

About this treatment

Looking for that "just detailed" glow without the full correction price tag? The Enhancement Detail is the answer. This service bridges the gap between my premium wash and a multi-stage correction, focusing on removing the haze—micro-marring and light swirls—that dulls your paint over time. Using a machine polishing setup tailored specifically to your car, I’ll bring back the sharp reflections and high-gloss finish your paintwork deserves.

I find this treatment is the perfect choice for clients who have recently purchased a "new to them" pre-owned car, typically in the 3–5 year old range, as it effectively resets the finish. It is also a highly strategic option if you are looking to boost the "curb appeal" and resale value of your vehicle before putting it on the market, or simply to give your daily driver a professional lift that makes it feel like new again.

Before the polishing.

While this treatment focuses on the single-stage machine polish, the results are only as good as the preparation. It is vital that every surface is perfectly clean and chemically decontaminated before I bring a machine polisher near your paintwork. I follow a rigorous preparation sequence to ensure the best possible bond and finish.

  • Wheels & Arches: I jack your vehicle up to provide deep-access cleaning to the wheel arches, wheels, and tires. This ensures the "unseen" areas are just as pristine as the bodywork and prevents hidden dirt from interfering with the polishing stage.

  • Intricate Detailing: I meticulously clean door shuts, badges, and grilles—all those tucked-away areas that a standard wash mitt simply glides over.

  • The Safe Contact Wash: Following a deep snow foam pre-wash to lift and dwell on loose grit, I perform an ultra-safe contact wash. I use professional-grade tools and pH-neutral products to ensure the surface is scratch-free and ready for treatment.

  • Chemical & Mechanical Decontamination: A standard wash isn’t enough for a true enhancement. I use dedicated fallout removers to eliminate embedded ferrous metals (iron) and safely dissolve tar deposits. Finally, a clay bar treatment removes any remaining bonded contaminants, leaving the paint surgically clean and smooth.

The polishing and finishing process

The polishing and finishing process

With the surfaces surgically clean, I can begin the transformation. Over my 16 years of detailing, I have gained an extensive understanding of various manufacturers' paint types and hardness levels. This experience is vital in selecting the perfect pad and polish combination to achieve the best possible results safely.

  • Masking & Measuring: Before a machine touches the car, I mask all delicate trim and rubber to prevent any polish staining. I then use a digital paint depth gauge to analyse the thickness of the clear coat, ensuring there is a healthy and safe margin to proceed with polishing.

  • Tailored Polishing: As no two paint finishes are created equal, this stage is bespoke to your vehicle. My goal is to remove the maximum number of defects possible in a single-stage machine set; I typically aim for 60% surface defect removal.

  • Locking in the Gloss: To protect the newly enhanced finish, I apply either a high-grade T1 Carnauba Wax (providing a 3–4 month "warm" glow) or a Paint Sealant (for 6–8 months of "clinical" high-gloss protection). For those seeking the ultimate durability, this stage is frequently upgraded to a Ceramic Coating.

  • The Final Flourishes: No detail is complete without the finishing touches. Wheels, tyres, and arches are dressed and protected. I also ensure the interior is thoroughly vacuumed and wiped down, with isolated stains addressed and all glass cleaned to a streak-free, crystal-clear finish.
